IIntense pulsed light (IPL), or pulsed glare, is a broad-spectrum light that is focused and filtered by a very intense source of light, essentially an incoherent ordinary light rather than a laser. The wavelength of IPL is usually 500 to 1200 nm. IPL is one of the most widely used phototherapy techniques in clinical practice, and it plays an important role in the field of skin beauty. IPL is currently widely used in the treatment of various accommodative skin diseases, especially skin diseases related to photodamage and photoaging, namely classic type I skin rejuvenation and type II skin rejuvenation.
The theoretical basis of IPL treatment of skin diseases is the principle of selective photothermal action. Because IPL is a broad spectrum, it can cover multiple absorption peaks such as melanin, oxidized hemoglobin, and water.
